    Deborah received a Vibrant Communities Grant to work with the Boys and Girls Club in Dallas GA.  The students learned how art can play an important part in revitalizing a city.  In the class they learned about the inner workings of what makes a city.  The students toured the historic district to see the changes.   They learned why the streets were narrowed and sidewalks widened.     Life Skills Movie

    The Story of Susie is a story and film created by students during a life skills class called “Value Art – Live Substance Free”.  The students created the artwork and then it was consolidated to create the film.  The program was design by Deborah Landry and was funded by Lake County Substance Abuse Council with partnerships with University of Northwest Indiana and South Shore Art.

    Movie – Together We Make a River

      ___________________________________________________________________________    Together We Make A River  – Drawings were created by the public to tell a story of birds, butterflies and other flying things coming together to making a river.  Each drawing is photographed with a blue satin ribbon (The ribbon representing water).  With each flying thing’s ribbon combined create the Sweet Water river in Georgia.     Beehive #ArtUP

    I created this Beehive for my backyard.  I wanted something that reflected my art.  The colors are subtle and will allow focal point to be the natural beauty of the garden.  The first layer of paint I put down was a patina to look like old copper.  After that it was a process of layering lace and doilies in different colors.  From a distance it looks like flowers.

    Challenge:  You need to rebuild your  city after a disaster. Artists can use materials that you consider trash.  Artists are masters of recycling.  As a result they help clean up the space. Artists are resourceful and creative; they can do a lot with limited funds and can make a small budget feel bigger. Example:  Artists create parks and community meeting places by recycling old concrete found from destroyed sidewalks and roads.
